Health & Fitness

Aging and injuries can make it difficult for us to maintain mobility wellness. Just keep moving.

Calvin Dallas is a retired teacher, musician and distance runner.  He may be seen jogging along the eastern roads of St Thomas. Calvin has been practicing Tai Chi for nearly 30 years in several of the public open spaces around town.  Tai Chi is a creative extension to Calvin’s outlook of life.  Balance, harmony and love are keys to living well and Tai Chi has all of those elements, he says.  Tai Chi is a breathe and flow meditative activity for all ages.  Dallas who is mindful of his diet, practices this meditative, flowing movement to renew his spirit and release stress.  Breath.

Walking for Wellness

Walking is one of the easiest ways to get exercise and stay healthy.

  • Start with a short-term goal. For example, walk for 5 or 10 minutes every day.
  • After you’ve made walking a habit,
  • Set a longer-term goal. You may want to set a goal of walking briskly for at least 30 minutes a day.
  • You can use a phone app or wear a pedometer to track your steps each day.
  • To stay motivated, find a walking partner.
