Essential Oils

“Beating the Heat During Summer Morning Walks.

Posted by, Christine Garrett Davis, September 4, 2024

Ms. Elaine enjoys morning walks.  However, as morning temperatures rise walkers can experience heat exhaustion.  This is what Ms. Elaine shared with me one morning at Gilley’s Brew Bar while we waited for our coffee.

She soaks several hand towels in water to which she has added essential oils. After allowing them to soak she lightly squeezes each towel to remove excess water.  Next, she rolls each towel, puts them in baggies and stores them in the freezer until needed.

As she leaves for her morning walk Ms. Elaine will take one of the towels from the freezer.  Ms. Elaine wears her hand made cooling towel around her neck during walks.

Now, there are stores that sell neck cooling tubes, probably without essential oils, however the simplicity and economy of Ms. Elaine’s approach is very appealing.  Thank you, Ms. Elaine.

“What Is Yoga?”

Yoga is an ancient practice, rooted in Indian philosophy.  It began as a spiritual practice but has become popular as a way of promoting physical and mental well-being.

Styles of yoga range from gentle practices to physically demanding ones. Practiced by the very young and older, it’s sometimes called “meditative movement” practices. Research suggest that yoga may help improve general wellness by relieving stress, supporting good health habits, and improving mental/emotional health, sleep, and balance.
